Just Desserts: A Celebration of Environmental Leadership

Each December, LALCV hosts Just Desserts, a casual holiday event that brings the environmental community together with old and new friends for an afternoon of desserts and wine in a garden setting.

Los Angeles City Attorney Debate, April 22, 2009

LALCV hosted a televised debate between City Attorney candidates Jack Weiss and Carmen “Nuch” Trutanich in April 2009. The event, held at The Westside Jewish Community Center, was attended by more than 400 people and focused on environmental issues. The hour-long debate was broadcast on ABC Channel 7 and sponsored by ABC Channel 7, the Manatt Phelps Phillip law firm, and the Ron Burkle Foundation. LALCV did not make an endorsement in the race.



Los Angeles County Supervisors Debate, April 24, 2008

LALCV hosted a televised debate between Los Angeles Councilmember Bernard Parks and State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas during their race for Los Angeles County Supervisor in the 2nd District. The debate, co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters, took place before an audience of 250 people at The Westside Jewish Community Center. The debate focused on a number of environmental issues, as well as quality of life issues such as the need for healthcare and public safety concerns in the district. Following the debate, LALCV endorsed Mark Ridley-Thomas.



Los Angeles Mayoral Debate, December 21, 2004

LALCV hosted a televised debate between Richard Alarcon, James Hahn, Robert Hertzberg, Bernard Parks and Antonio Villaraigosa in their race for Mayor of Los Angeles. The 90-minute debate took place in front of 400 people at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Bing Auditorium. The event, co-sponsored by KABC-7, was the first broadcast mayoral debate to focus on environmental issues and was also broadcast on KCET, LA36, KPFK and KPCC. Following the debate, LALCV endorsed Antonio Villaraigosa.
