Major environmental issues in Culver City include the following:
Ballona Creek: a nine-mile flood control channel (four miles of which are in Culver City) that flows with urban runoff, which contains pollutants, including trash, animal waste, oil and grease, pesticides and fertilizers, and industrial chemicals as well as large items such as shopping carts.

Oil Drilling: Culver City is challenging an environmental impact report(EIR) approved by Los Angeles County that could allow 600 new wells to be drilled over the next 20 years in the Inglewood oil field, adjacent to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area.

Exposition Light Rail Transit Line (Expo Line): will link downtown to Santa Monica via Culver City. Despite the significant environmental benefits of light rail, there has been opposition to the Expo Line from residents of Culver City and adjacent areas.

Smart Development: Culver City is being encouraged to maintain a balance between the downtown business corridor and adjacent neighborhoods.
