Incorporated in 1903, the City of Arcadia consists of 10.9 square miles located in the San Gabriel Valley in northeastern Los Angeles County. The total population is 56,547 with a density of 4,867.3 persons per square mile. The median age is 40.5 and the median household income is $62,466. Arcadia has a five-member City Council. Councilmembers are elected for four-year terms; the Mayor is appointed by the council. As of 2004, there were 27,330 registered voters in the city with the following party affiliations:
